With 1 in 400 babies in the UK born with cerebral palsy, #CerebralPalsyAwarenessMonth has never been so important.
Cerebral palsy is a term used to cover several neurological conditions, most commonly caused during childbirth which includes; Spastic Cerebral Palsy (the most common form), Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Cerebral Palsy.
Most common symptoms of cerebral palsy include:
- Muscle stiffness
- Muscle spasms
- Lack of muscle control and coordination
Whilst cerebral palsy is the number one cause of childhood disability in the developed world, life expectancy with mild cases is the same as the national average and with the right support, people with cerebral palsy can still lead a rich and fulfilling life!
LiveYou founder, Dan has cerebral palsy and has managed to build a support system for himself where he was able to live independently and achieve all the goals he set out to achieve.
